Kara works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Trustees’ Development Committee to plan and direct resource development and fundraising to support United Through Reading’s mission delivery. Kara leads a team of development and communications professionals who together provide program support through alliance strategies, marketing and campaigns, special events, gift development, and donor stewardship.
Kara has ten years of nonprofit management experience at United Through Reading. In 2008, she retired from the Navy as a Commander with 12 years on active duty, including seven months after 9-11 with the 31st Naval Construction Regiment in Port Hueneme, CA, and eight years in the Navy Reserve. Kara earned a BA from The College of the Holy Cross and an MBA from San Diego State University. In 2013, Kara received the Sanctae Crucis Award from Holy Cross, an award for alumni who have distinguished themselves professionally and in the service of justice.
