FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, Non-exempt
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Area Coordinator, Washington, DC organizes and provides comprehensive and effective program delivery, ensures smooth and continuous engagement of United Through Reading in the Greater Washington DC area, and ensures that program metrics and expenses are tracked and reported.
PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: Greater Washington DC. This is a remote position. The candidate must be located somewhere in the area and be able to travel as far north as Fort Meade to as far south as Marine Corps Base Quantico.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Professionally represent UTR at events including, but not limited to, UTR recording events, pre-deployment and other briefings, information and book distributions, and other events supporting service members, military spouses, and military/veteran service organizations
- Utilizing the Mobile Story Station (MSS) and/or other program collateral to record service members, veterans, and military family members reading to the children in their lives.
In close coordination with supervisors, assist in establishing, broadening, and deepening collaborations and partnerships with current and potential local program partners - Recruit and train local volunteers and support supervisors in the retention, expansion, and engagement of UTR’s volunteer force, with particular attention to cultivating and stewarding advocates and ambassadors for our mission
- Create, maintain, and consistently update records in the customer relationship management database (SalesForce) for new and existing commands and partner organizations, recipients of programs and services, and other accounts

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred; relevant and impactful experience may substitute for a degree
- Experience with or knowledge of military culture and customs required; military veteran or spouse preferred
- Demonstrated and impactful experience, with particular experience working with diverse teams in distributed Cloud-based environments, supporting ongoing non-profit and/or military support program delivery.
- Strong administrative skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- United Through Reading is a virtual organization; most daily tasks are performed from home or personal office space, utilizing online services and video and audio conferencing
- Home or personal office space must have stable broadband Internet access and nominal storage space for supplies. Must maintain reliable mobile telephone service, including voice, text, and data
- Reliable transportation and up-to-date automobile insurance are required.
- Additionally, some travel will be needed to support local and national events and to develop and steward giving activities
- Ability to represent United Through Reading at events in the Greater Washington DC area from Fort Meade to Marine Corps Base Quantico and everywhere in between, including on nights and weekends
- Ability to travel away outside of the Greater Washington DC Area (appx. 10%) and be flexible

COMPENSATION:
$18 to $22, commensurate with experience. Typical work week is estimated at 15 to 20 hours.
