United Through Reading Supports The Yellow Glasses Project

July 28, 2022

United Through Reading is thrilled to join The Dollar General Literacy Foundation in The Yellow Glasses Project again this year; an awareness campaign aimed to shine a light on literacy while fostering a brighter future by funding educational initiatives. Customers at more than 17,400 Dollar General stores across the country can purchase a pair of yellow sunglasses for $2 each. Each Yellow Glasses purchase provides 100 percent of the proceeds directly to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Help ‘shine the light on literacy’ by posting photos of yourself sporting your Yellow Glasses, tagging @TheYellowGlassesProject on Facebook, Instagram, and @DGYellowGlasses on Twitter with the hashtags #TheYellowGlassesProject and #ShineBrighter.

Dr. Sally Ann Zoll, United Through Reading CEO, says, “I look forward to wearing my yellow glasses every summer! Thanks to Dollar General Literacy Foundation for truly making a difference in the lives of children across the country, and especially our military children who we are proud to serve every day.”

United Through Reading is grateful for contributions from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, our Books of Ownership Sponsor. In 2022, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation helped us purchase and distribute more than 22,600 children’ books to military and veteran families around the world, supporting the literacy development of military-connected children. Since 2018, their grants have helped United Through Reading distribute over 95,000 new, high-quality children’s books facilitating read-aloud storytime in military and Veteran households throughout the United States and on US military installations overseas!

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports adult, youth, summer, and family literacy programs helping individuals take their next steps toward a brighter future. Grants fund programming through schools, libraries, and nonprofits, including United Through Reading, that help students learn to read, prepare for the high school equivalency tests or learn English.
