Message from the Chairman: United Through Reading Announces Executive Leadership Change

May 21, 2024, San Diego, CA – United Through Reading’s (UTR) Chief Executive Officer, Tim Farrell, has decided to resign

Tim Farrell will leave the organization effective June 2024. United Through Reading appointed Tim CEO in 2022. Tim previously held leadership roles in several prominent military support charitable organizations and served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force.

I am pleased to announce the return of former CEO Dr. Sally Ann Zoll. Dr. Zoll will lead the organization on an interim basis until a new CEO is identified. As CEO of United Through Reading from 2007 until her retirement in 2022, Sally transformed the organization into one capable of delivering millions of bedtime stories to military families. She expanded financial support for United Through Reading’s mission through new partnerships with corporations, foundations, and individual contributors and helped evolve the delivery of storytime through digital technology.

I would like to thank Tim for his dedication to military families and wish him tremendous success in his next chapter. United Through Reading couldn’t be more fortunate to have Sally’s steady hand at the helm while the Board of Trustees works expeditiously to select a new successor. Sally will begin immediately to enable a successful transition with Tim’s departure in June.

I wish to express my deep gratitude to the tremendously gifted staff at United Through Reading and the many partners and volunteers who work day and night to ensure families stay connected through reading, no matter the distance between them. I thank them for their support during this transition.
