FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, Non-exempt
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Warehouse and Program Assistant (the Assistant) is the primary shipping, receiving, and inventory clerk for United Through Reading’s primary storage, packing, and distribution hub in San Diego, CA. The Assistant also coordinates with the San Diego Area Manager to ensure the Mobile Story Station West (MSSW) is maintained, parked securely, and serviced on schedule and as needed. The Assistant supports the Programs team in providing comprehensive and effective program delivery in the greater San Diego area.
PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: UTR’s storage facility in central San Diego, CA, and home office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain accurate inventory of all physical assets stored in UTR’s storage facility
- Receive, unpack, shelve, organize, and inventory incoming shipments
- Pack and ship outbound shipments
- Ensure storage facility is kept secure, is tidy, and that assets (in particular new children’s books and related program delivery and support items) are protected from conditions that would render them unusable
- In coordination with the San Diego Area Manager or designee, ensure the MSSW has adequate and secure parking and is maintained, cleaned, and serviced on schedule and as needed
- Create, maintain, and consistently update inventory and shipping/receiving records in the customer relationship management (CRM) database
- Professionally represent UTR at events
- Utilizing the MSSW and/or other program collateral to encourage participation, record service members, Veterans, and military families members reading to the children in their lives, and distribute books to military families
- In close coordination with the Vice President of Programs, continually assess storage, shipping, receiving, and inventory needs, the condition and utilization of the MSSW, and recommend improvements
- Other duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Though United Through Reading is a primarily virtual organization, the primary work environment for this role is UTR’s storage facility
- In coordination with the Vice President of Programs, when not needed on a given workday in the storage facility, other administrative and similar tasks may be performed from home or personal office space, utilizing online services and video and audio conferencing
- Home or personal office space must have stable broadband Internet access
- Must maintain reliable mobile telephone service, including voice, text, and data
- Reliable transportation as well as up-to-date automobile insurance is required
- Additionally, some travel will be needed to support local events

SALARY RANGE: $18-$22 per hour, commensurate with experience. Typical work week is estimated at 20 hours per week.
