Against the stunning backdrop of Glorietta Bay in Coronado, California, friends, supporters, military families, and partners gathered for the 2026 Storybook Soirée to celebrate the powerful connection created through shared storytime.

More than 160 guests joined us for an unforgettable evening dedicated to keeping military families connected across the miles. Together, we raised more than $161,000 to advance United Through Reading’s mission and ensure military children never miss a storytime with the people they love.

Throughout the night, guests experienced moving reminders of why this work matters. They heard firsthand how a recorded story can provide comfort, familiarity, and connection when military service separates families.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came from Gold Star Military Spouse Mikale Chambers, who honored her late husband, Chief Special Warfare Operator Christopher Chambers. She shared how a story he recorded through United Through Reading remains a cherished gift and lasting connection for their family.

At its heart, the Storybook Soirée was a celebration of community. It brought together people who believe every military child deserves the comfort of seeing a loved one and hearing their voice and the joy of a shared story, no matter where duty calls.

The evening was sponsored by the Dohrman Family Foundation, Northrop Grumman, and Sandra and Juan Andrade in honor of Admiral James Zortman. To everyone who attended, sponsored, donated, volunteered, and championed our mission: thank you. Your support helps military families stay connected, create lasting memories, and turn storytime into something far greater than sharing a book.

Together, we’re helping military families write their next chapter, one story at a time.
