Introducing United Through Reading’s newest contest! We’re inviting families to turn trash into treasure by decorating empty boxes they may have lying around. Inspired by our 2024 Book for the Military Child, Ty’s Travels: All Aboard, written by Kelly Starling Lyons and illustrated by Niña Mata. In the book, Ty uses his imagination to turn an empty box into a train car and take the train on an adventure. We encourage all families to participate in a creative and engaging activity during the start of summer break and peak Permanent Change of Station (PCS) season.
The contest aims to promote imaginative play, family bonding, and literacy while alleviating the stress of moving and providing a summer boredom-buster activity. Make a fort, cat condo, lemonade stand, rocket ship, castle, or train car, like Ty! Use any and all decorative materials you have and let your creativity loose. No project is too small!
