Honoring Dr. Lynnette Beall

December 15, 2023

The late Dr. Lynnette Beall believed that giving made a difference in the world, and she personally supported numerous charities across a wide range of causes. But she had a special place in her heart for United Through Reading thanks to her sister Carolyn Colwell, one of our founding board members, and our mission to support military families staying connected through reading.

Lynnette graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in 1959. She earned a Certificate in Business Administration at Harvard-Radcliffe in 1960 and went on to earn an MA and then a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Michigan in 1967, becoming a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in 1968. She was one of two founding members of the Wright Institute Graduate School of Professional Psychology in Berkeley and remained an outstanding member of the faculty there for the rest of her life. Her teaching skills were apparent from the very beginning, and the positive influence that she has had on her students over the years has become legendary.

Lynette was a person that people loved to be near and could never get enough of. She will especially be remembered for her ability to engage all those with whom she came into contact in a way that made each one feel warmly embraced by her vital and loving spirit.

Dr. Beall will be remembered forever, and her generosity will continue to help United Through Reading provide meaningful opportunities for service members to stay connected and provide support to their children through the read-aloud experience for years to come.
