Oshkosh Defense Pays It Forward

May 16, 2018

United Through Reading (UTR) is proud to partner with Oshkosh Defense so that service members using their tactical vehicles can also stay connected to their families through the read-aloud experience when they are away. UTR’s mission success impacts Oshkosh Defense employees and aligns with their commitment to our country’s military. Oshkosh Defense has hundreds of staff members who currently serve in the military and thousands of civilian staff members with friends and family members currently serving.

For the last two years Oshkosh Defense generously sponsored UTR’s Tribute To Military Families.  Support like Oshkosh Defense’s sponsorship elevates UTR’s impact and reach. During the Month of the Military Child (April)  and National Military Appreciation Month (May), Oshkosh Defense employees are taking their support a step further. They are paying it forward by sponsoring a Virtual Book Drive.  The goal of the Virtual Book Drive is to raise enough funds to purchase 1,000 books.

Oshkosh Defense team member, Stephen Rosera, shared why he chose to donate to the Virtual Book Drive, “I served in the Wisconsin National Guard for 18 years. During my last two deployments I used this program to read to my two small children every night.  Every little ounce of connection we can share with our families while we are deployed means so much.”

Another team member, Thomas Jefferson sent the following note with his gift, “My father was a Sailor in the Korean War, and I thought this would be a wonderful way to honor his memory.  He was a pretty terrific man who would enjoy the idea that a father/mother is connecting with their children with the help of my donation.”

In addition to sponsoring Tribute to Military Families and the Virtual Book Drive, Oshkosh Defense employees will have the opportunity to see UTR in action. Arrangements are being made for Oshkosh Defense employees to volunteer at Fort McCoy and help the UTR volunteers make pre-deployment recordings for the troops there.

We have the pleasure of partnering with many businesses and organizations; Oshkosh Defense definitely stands out as a top notch UTR partner that is driven to support military families!
