United Through Reading is pleased to announce Rob Pennoyer, leading military advocate in San Diego, will chair the annual Storybook Ball Gala on Saturday, Nov 5, 2022, at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel. A veteran of the defense industry, Rob brings over 25 years of working with such industry leaders as SAIC, BAE, Leidos, Epsilon System Solutions, and Red Hat.

The Storybook Ball is a much-anticipated event every year bringing together senior military, elected officials, industry, and local military families who have benefitted from the United Through Reading program. Former honorees at the Storybook Ball include BAE Systems, USAA, Target, San Diego Gas and Electric, NBC 7, Northrop Grumman, and The San Diego Military Advisory Council. Such esteemed authors as Michael Berenstain, Brad Meltzer, and James Patterson have been celebrated at the Ball.

Active duty military and their families provide some real “stars” and glamour at the event with the CNO,Deputy CNO, Air Boss, Commander of the 3 rd Fleet, Commander of the Pacific Fleet, and the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs as frequent attendees.“I’ve been supporting United Through Reading for years and eager to bring new friends, resources, and opportunities forward in support of their program that keeps military families together through the simple act of reading aloud”, says Pennoyer. “I intend to make the 2022 Storybook Ball a record-setting year!” United Through Reading has been connecting military families through the read-aloud experience for more than 30 years in support of its mission to connect military families through reading together, no matter the distance between, connecting 2.7 million military family members in the process.

The focus of the 2022 Storybook Ball is to ensure military families are ready for reading and will increase awareness among military families through the Mobile Reading App and worldwide  Story Stations. United Through Reading is always on duty as they connect military families through deployments, drill weekends, and now global pandemics. Storytime with United Through Reading helps families stay connected, remain resilient, and build a love of reading.
