September 21, 2021

SAN DIEGO, CA — United Through Reading (UTR) and Support The Enlisted Project (STEP) hosted their fourth annual joint golf tournament, ‘Swing for our Heroes’, on Friday, September 17th at Omni La Costa Resort. Together they were able to raise more than $100,000 to support military families facing financial challenges (STEP) and staying connected with storytime during times of separation (UTR).

“This annual golf tournament raises needed funds to assist service members and their families during times of physical separation and financial hardship, which in the last year has been exacerbated by COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sally Ann Zoll, Chief Executive Officer for United Through Reading. “We are so grateful to our San Diego community for their participation in this year’s event”

The tournament featured a shotgun start and scramble format and included a number of standard proxy events such as men’s and women’s longest drive and men’s and women’s closest to the pin. Mulligan packages were available for purchase that included two mulligans, co-branded hats and drink tickets. After a round of golf, participants enjoyed a reception, silent auction, and live auction.

“We continue to be grateful for our partnership with UTR and the annual golf tournament. It was another beautiful day with our golfers and volunteers who are choosing to give back to young military and veteran families at home and abroad,” said STEP CEO & Co-Founder Tony Teravainen.

It also included recognition of the event’s sponsors: Title Sponsors – Landing Collective and White Feather Investments; Course Marshall Sponsors – The Carmondy Team and USS Midway Foundation; Eagle Sponsors- Caliber and Jingoli Power; Birdie Sponsors- Del Rey; General Atomics Aeronautical, and Magee Enterprise; Par Sponsors- FT Realty, Klinedinst Attorneys; and San Diego Padres; and Tee Sponsors- City National Bank, Considine & Considine, General Dynamics NASSCO, Levitzacks, LTSP CPA, and Soapy Joe’s.
