Saturday October 10, 2026, was a beautiful fall day at Arlington National Cemetery as a crowd gathered to witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the wreath-laying ceremony conducted on behalf of United Through Reading.
The United Through Reading procession was led by Lead Trustee Mike Barbero, USA (Ret.), and Board Member Dan Frisby, USA (Ret.), followed by CEO Carrie Valentine Fuller and Vice President of Programs Samantha Hagan-Lingad.
It was a powerful and moving ceremony, and an incredible honor for United Through Reading to participate. Watching the precision of the honor guard and hearing the stirring notes of the bugle before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, set against the sweeping backdrop of our nation’s capital, created a memory none of us present will ever forget.
At United Through Reading, service members and military families are never far from our minds. Standing in that sacred place deepened our commitment to the mission and renewed our appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who serve and those who support them at home.
