United Through Reading is pleased to welcome three members to our Board: Ann Hammell, Mark Martinez, and York Rasmusson.
Ann Hammel is an accomplished Vice President of Human Resources at Carter’s Inc. with a history of driving results in dynamic, performance-focused organizations. She is known for translating business strategies into talent strategies, elevating operational excellence, driving scalable growth, and delivering results through people. Ann leads a team of strategic HR business partners. She collaborates closely with leaders and teams throughout the entire talent lifecycle, including organizational development, talent acquisition, succession planning, executive development and coaching, and employee relations.
Before Carter’s, Ann grew her HR career at Macy’s Inc., where she held various positions of increasing responsibility, leading to Divisional Vice President of Organizational Development. Ann began her career as a Platoon Leader in the United States Army Signal Corps and holds a BBA with a major in Marketing from the University of North Georgia. Ann is married to her college sweetheart Larry Hammel; they have two grown children, John and Clara.
As an Assistant Vice President of Branch Operations at Navy Federal Credit Union, Mark Martinez leads a dynamic team of 202 professionals across sixteen branches in three states. With a strong commitment to excellence and a passion for fostering growth, Mark ensures each branch’s seamless operation and success under his leadership.
Before coming to Navy Federal in 2011, Mark led teams in the retail and wholesale industries, gaining valuable leadership skills that have helped him become the dynamic leader he is today. Mark holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business administration from Regis University in Denver. His academic background and extensive firsthand experience have equipped him with the skills necessary to drive operational efficiency and deliver exceptional member service.
York Rasmusson is Senior Vice President of Finance at Inspire Brands in Atlanta, Georgia. Before Inspire Brands, York held various finance leadership roles at Carter’s, Inc. and Lands’ End, Inc. He holds a BS in Finance from Brigham Young University and an International MBA in Strategy/Finance from IE (Instituto de Empresa). He is a Certified Management Accountant and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. York is passionate about strengthening families and learning through reading.
