UTR Set to Visit Army Ten-Miler

October 6, 2022

On your mark. Get set. Go! United Through Reading will be alongside runners in the Army Ten-Miler for the first time in its year 38 tradition.

United Through Reading’s Mobile Story Station will be stationed on the expo floor on Friday, October 7, 2022, and Saturday, October 8, 2022, near our longstanding and Mobile Story Station East sponsor , BAE Systems, Inc.

We’ll be talking to Service Members and Veterans  about how to use our program and the benefits of bonding with children through reading. We’ll also gift the runners the first batch of UTR sweatbands as well as  books for their kids. Our staff will also be on hand to share how everyone can support UTR through volunteerism and philanthropy.

Our Ten-Miler team members are Josie Beets, Senior Vice President of Advancement; Molly Haskin, Director, Army, Air Force Programs; and Tonya Wood, Program Director, National Guard and Reserve.

Haskin says, “I am thrilled to have United Through Reading front and center as we support the Army 10-Miler Expo in DC Friday and Saturday!”

The Army Ten-Miler is held every October in Washington, D.C. The race is designed to “promote the Army, build esprit de corps, support Army fitness goals, and enhance community relations.” Organizers expect 35,000 runners and 900 teams from around the world to race this year; this includes military members, civilians, and Wounded Warrior athletes. All race proceeds benefit Soldiers and family MWR programs.

We look forward to seeing you at packet pick-up. Run Army Strong!
